Let’s reframe the menopause experience and consider that it doesn’t have to be negative. It’s possible that menopause might actually have a positive effect on your life. Not all physical changes caused by reduced female hormone levels are negative [hello, NO MORE PERIODS!]

Menopause can be incredibly liberating. Say goodbye to PMS and those awful hormonal headaches (aka migraines). Have sex without pregnancy worries. Reduce the size of uterine fibroids caused by high estrogen levels. I could go on.

American anthropologist Margaret Mead called this phase of life “menopausal zest”– the rush of energy, both physical and psychological that some women feel after menopause. It’s a natural time for women to take stock of their lives, taking a fresh look at relationships, professions, the way we care for our own health, and how we’re expending our energy.
